Founded in 1990 as the Historic Rivers Land Conservancy, we were the first private non-profit land trust in Virginia incorporated specifically to use the provisions of the Virginia Conservation Easement Act. In 1996 our name was changed and today, the Conservancy operates as a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization, supported by annual membership dues, donations and grants. A 20-member Board of Directors, comprised of community leaders from throughout the Historic Triangle, governs the organization. Ten working committees help to carry out the programs and projects of the Conservancy.
The Conservancy is dedicated to protecting and preserving significant natural, scenic, agricultural and historic land in the Historic Triangle. Through a combination of land preservation tools, education and advocacy programs, and shaping public policy, the Conservancy strives to maintain the character and ambiance of this special place where we live and work or where others simply come to visit for a while.
The Conservancy currently protects over 3,000 acres of land in the James and York Rivers watersheds. We measure our success by the total acreage of land protected in our region. That’s why the Conservancy works in partnership and collaboration with other land protection organizations and programs to ensure land owners use the best conservation tool to protect their land.

Dynamic DU-Over! It takes more than a hurricane to keep Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs from appearing at the Annual Hampton Bay Days Festival.
– Performances to take place at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at City Hall Stage on Saturday, September 12–Hampton, VA- On Saturday, September 12, Grammy-winning musicians, Bruce Hornsby and Ricky Skaggs are back to perform at the Hampton Bay Days Festival after Hurricane Hanna forced a cancellation of last year’s performance.
“Backed by their full bands, Bruce Hornsby & the NoiseMakers as well as Ricky Skaggs with Kentucky Thunder are returning to perform at Hampton Bay Days,” said Hampton Bay Days Executive Director Shelly Ezanno. “They refuse to let inclement weather make them anything other than just a little bit late."
The two-part, star-filled show begins at 6:00 p.m. with a performance by Ricky Skaggs & Bruce Hornsby with Kentucky Thunder, followed at 8:00 p.m. with a performance by Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers. During both sets, Ricky Skaggs and Bruce Hornsby will perform together. Performances are free and open to the public.
The musical performances will be followed by a twenty minute fireworks celebration at 10:00 p.m.
Hornsby a Williamsburg, VA native and resident , twelve-time Grammy nominee and three-time Grammy winner, has produced ten albums, and sold over 11 million copies worldwide. Music lovers will enjoy an eclectic mix of hits played by Hornsby and the Noisemakers including, “The Way It Is”, the most played song on American radio in 1987, “The End of the Innocence”, “Mandolin Rain” and “Every Little Kiss.”
Also, known around the music industry as a collaborator, Hornsby has been sought after by a veritable “who’s who” in the music business. He’s played on albums with Bob Dylan, Don Henley, the Grateful Dead, Bob Seger, Crosby Stills and Nash, Stevie Nicks, Willie Nelson, and more. In 2007, bluegrass veteran Ricky Skaggs and pianist Bruce Hornsby joined forces for a collaborative album released on March 20, 2007. Eleven-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs is affectionately known as one of bluegrass music’s most recognized ambassadors.
A wide variety of musical artists will perform on multiple outdoor stages throughout the Hampton Bay Days weekend. The City Hall Stage and Mill Point Park Stage are sponsored by Tri-Cities Beverage Corp. Hampton Bay Days is in the process of securing additional headliners and will announce the
full schedule as soon as it is available. All performances are free and open to the public. For more information, check out www.baydays.com
The 27th annual Hampton Bay Days will take place Friday, September 11 – Sunday, September 13, 2009 in downtown Hampton, Virginia. The mission of Hampton Bay Days is to create a family-oriented festival that educates visitors about the importance of the Chesapeake Bay and its natural resources. Visitors experience a unique, three-day family festival and enjoy national recording artists, educational, environmental hands-on activities, children’s activities, arts and crafts, fireworks, and more.
The Virginia Arts Festival has always offered a strong showing of classical music and dance each spring. But its 13th season now under way has big names in musical theater and country music to add to the mix.
Liza Minnelli performed last Friday, and another of Broadway’s reigning stars, Patti Lupone, will give two cabaret shows May 24 in the Williamsburg Lodge. On the festival’s closing weekend, multi-Grammy winner and country music icon Emmylou Harris joins forces with Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin and Buddy Miller on May 30 in the Ferguson Center for the Arts.
The festival’s roster of nonclassical artists also includes sitar players Ravi Shankar and his daughter, Anoushka, Tuesday in Chrysler Hall; Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, May 11 at the Roper Performing Arts Center in Norfolk;
Ballet and contemporary dance lovers have five different companies to choose from this year. Czech National Theatre Ballet is offering an evening of works by contemporary choreographers May 2-3 in the Harrison Opera House. The Mark Morris Dance Group presents Morris’ version of “Romeo and Juliet,” set to Prokofiev’s original score, May 8-10 in Chrysler Hall. The lineup also includes “Ballroom with a Twist” Wednesday in Chrysler Hall, Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company May 16-17 in the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, and Richmond Ballet May 29-30 in the Ferguson Center.
Three venerable string quartets lead off the chamber music series, with the Kronos Quartet tonight at the NorVa in Norfolk, Jerusalem Quartet Monday in Norfolk’s Ohef Shalom Temple and Tokyo String Quartet May 3 in Norfolk’s Epworth United Methodist Church. Pianist Andre-Michel Schub again will oversee the chamber music programs that will feature appearances by the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, Miami String Quartet and Imani Winds.
The 7th Annual Festival Williamsburg presented by The VA Arts Festival is being held MAY 21-24, 2009 Travel through time and space—from the hot Latin rhythms of Cuba’s Tiempo Libre to the big band-era sounds of the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, the transcendent majesty of Haydn’s The Creation to the Broadway stylings of the legendary Patti LuPone.

Renowned choral music director Robert Page will serve as guest conductor of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra for a presentation of Haydn’s enduringly popular sacred masterpiece, The Creation, on Thursday evening at St. Bede Catholic Church. The concert will feature the Robert Page Festival Singers including soloists Elisabeth Turchi, soprano; Amanda Russo, mezzosoprano;
Douglas Ahlstedt, tenor; Craig Verm, baritone; and Andrew Wentzel, bass-baritone.
Friday kicks off with a morning Coffee Concert at Williamsburg Winery featuring astonishing young classical pianist Jie Chen, playing for the first time in the area. Don’t miss the chance to see a star in the making.
On Friday night, go back to the future with Norfolk, Virginia’s own DeLoreans, a five-piece band dedicated to all things ’80s. They’ll play a free concert in New Town at Sullivan Square.
Combining classical training with Latin jazz savvy and dance hall heat, Tiempo Libre will have audiences out of their seats and moving to the beat in the Virginia Room at the Williamsburg Lodge, also on Friday. There’s a reason Miami New Times named them “Hottest Latin Band 2008.” On Saturday, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, keepers of the big band flame, will swing into the Virginia Room. Don’t miss signature tunes like “I’m Getting Sentimental Over You,” “Marie,” “I’ll Never Smile Again,” “Manhattan Serenade” and many more.
Both the Tiempo Libre and Tommy Dorsey Orchestra shows offer intimate cabaret seating complete with a dance floor. Come prepared to shake it if you got it.
On Sunday, virtuosic pianist André-Michel Schub will lead an afternoon of chamber music classics at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church including Mozart’s Piano Quartet in G minor, K.478; Zwilich’s String Trio; and Fauré’s Piano Quartet in G minor.
Finally, the one and only Tony Award-winning Patti LuPone, best known for her starring roles in Evita and Gypsy, comes to the Williamsburg Lodge for two shows on Sunday evening. Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda, conceived and directed by Scott Wittman, showcases Lupone’s broad range in songs she could have played, should have played, did play and will play.

I am very happy to see that Robbin Thompson is coming to perform here in Williamsburg, VA. If you grew up or lived in Virginia in the 70’s or 80’s then you probably know who he is.

Robbin Thompson’s musical career spans over 40 years and still counting.
He was the lead singer in the Bruce Springsteen band Steel Mill, won the American Song Festival twice, and so far has recorded twelve albums. Don’t forget – Marcia Ball performs at the Corner Pocket this Thursday! Tickets are $25 – get them while they last! Doors open at 6 pm. For more information on Marcia Ball, visit her official website. The Corner Pocket is located in New Town., Williamsburg, VA
A few notes from her Bio: The simple mention of a Louisiana or Texas roadhouse conjures up images of a crowded dancehall filled wall-to-wall with rabid music fans rocking to a hotter-than-hot band playing a smoldering blend of swampy R&B, jumping blues and heart-wrenching ballads. Pianist/vocalist/songwriter Marcia Ball brings that spirit to every concert she plays and every song she records. Her music is mixed with equal parts simmering soul fervor and two-fisted piano pounding. Between her deeply emotive vocals and her incisive, often poignant songwriting, Ball is in a class by herself.

Transportation services are available to persons with medical appointments. Anyone in need of transportation must call three days in advance, although they will do their best to accommodate requests made with less than three days notice.
